How to Add an Image In Blogger

One way to make your post more appealing is to include some images.  Professional bloggers often swear by adding images as a way to get more visitors to read your post, and keep reading after they click.  As everyone knows, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Blogger has a great, simple tool for uploading images, provided they are the right size and format for the Internet.  We can talk at length later on about how to format, or use photos from your own camera.  Later on, I'll link to an article with some more information on the best photography software options out there.

For now, here's how to upload an image from your computer to blogger, and add it to your post:

    1.  Click the Add Image icon:

Click the icon that looks like a photograph, or picture frame.  The Upload image windows will open.

Some web browsers are set up to block pop-ups like these from opening.  If you click the 'Add Image' icon and nothing happens, head into your browser's settings and turn off pop-up protection.  In some browsers, you can turn on and off pop-ups for certain websites instead of all of them, so you can choose to let Blogger open pop-ups without getting spam from other websites.  Read your browser's Help Menu if you need further assistance.

    2.  Click the Browse or Choose File button in the Add Images windows and the Upload tab.

A File Upload window will open up.

    3. Find the Image you want to use from your Computer and select it

    4. Click Open

The location of the image is put into the image field.

    5. Choose Image size and layout from your options

When the image is placed in your post, you can click on it and change some of it's properties.  Layout dictates how the post's text will wrap around the image: either Right, Left or Centre.  Image size will determine how big the image will be in the blog post, you can choose Small, Medium, Large, or Original Size.

    6.  Click through to accept the Terms of Service.

    7. Click Upload Image

Your image is uploaded and inserted into your post

    8. Click Done.

The Upload Image pop-up will close and your image is now in your blog post.

You can also add an image to your post from another website.  As long as you have permission to use someone else's image, or the image is public domain (more on copyright issues later) you can use it easily in Blogger.

    1.  Find an Image you want to use on the Internet.

Make sure you are allowed to use the image by checking it's copyright or asking the original author.

    2. Right-Click the image and select Copy Image Location from the pop-up menu.
Copy Image Location might say something different depending on your browser, such as Copy Image Address.  If you don't see anything that looks right, check out the image's properties from the menu.  A window should open, showing you the URL which you can then click and drag to highlight.  Press Ctrl + C to copy the address on a Windows PC, click Cmd + C  on a Mac.

    3.  Head back to Blogger and either start a new post, or open a post you have already created.

    4. Click the Add Image Icon.
This should look like a photograph, or picture frame.  The Upload window will open.

    5.  Press Ctrl + V on PC, or Cmd + V on a Mac and paste the image URL into the URL field on the right of the window.

    7.  Click through to accept the Terms of Service.

    8. Click Upload Image

Your image is uploaded and inserted into your post

    9. Click Done.

The Upload Image pop-up will close and your image is now in your blog post.
