    Editing Page Elements in Blogger

When you want to want to Customize your template by heading to the 'Layouts' link on your dashboard, the page Elements tab will open by default.  The Page Elements tab was pretty groundbreaking for Bloggers when it was unveiled, giving writers fine control over the layout and look of their blog without the need to know HTML code, or have them learn the ins and outs of Web Publishing.  It reflected a growing movement of DIY, an attitude of 'I Can Do It' that became prevalent in the blogosphere - and the Internet in general.  Bloggers want we sites that reflect their own sensibilities, but most bloggers are part time, and don't have the hours or the funds to become an expert, much less hire one.

The Page Elements feature also reflected a growing number of bloggers and computer users who were able to create their own graphics and edit photographs on their own computers.  Page Elements was designed to give them a way to make the most of those skills.

In the Page Elements tab, you get a wireframe overview of your blog.  A Wireframe being a visual representation of your template or blog using only outlines, or boxes, of the elements you have.

    Using Page Elements you can:

    Edit.
Click edit on any single page element already being used and alter it's formatting.  For the majority of templates, this means you can customize the navigation bar, headers, the blog posts and the sidebar, which contains things like About Me and Archives.

    New Elements.
Click 'Add a New Page Element' you can add elements from a Blogger-powered library of elements right to your sidebar.  This includes elements like:

    • Polls
    • Lists
    • Hyperlink Lists
    • Pictures
    • Google AdSense Advertisments (more on those later)
    • Text
    • and HTML - giving you any option you can code.

Along with HTML, you can also add what is known as 'Third-Party' functionality but that is a topic unto itself.

    • RSS or Atom Feed (more about RSS later too)
    • Videos
    • Logos
    • Your Profile
    • Headlines

There are tons of more options as well.  The list just keeps growing - Blogger adds elements and new features always become available.
