Get Geeky With It

Being a Geek has it's advantages, even in blogging.  Not every blogger is technically-savy geek, but those that are have a big leg up.  So, if you've given up chances to go drink beer with the guys because your server-side install of Ubuntu wasn't finished, congratulations.  For you, blogging software might been your new fun project.

If you still have a social life, and do in fact, want to keep it, think about choose a hosted-blog solution or getting your geekiest buddy to help you out.  If you don't happen to speak geek, tinkering with software and tech might be more of a headache than it's worth.

For what it's worth, I'm not slamming geeks.  I am one, after all.

Some web-hosting companies do provide the ability to have automated installs of some blogging platforms or will even install the software for you, but as with most online or web-based software products, you will have to manage and update the software yourself.

It might be beneficial to you, if you don't geek out, to look up some technical info before you get started on your new site.  Getting a hand from a technically-savy friend could go along way to getting the ball rolling and keeping your sanity on this trip while you start your new blog.
